On May 22nd, the Hong Kong Construction Research and Development Centre (HKCRC) was invited to participate in the inaugural "Unicorn Day" event held by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
"Unicorn Day" is one of the flagship events of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, showcasing the achievements of over 90 unicorn companies and startups with connections to the university. It provides a platform for businesses, potential investors, scholars, and government representatives to exchange ideas and collaborate.
The event was attended by the President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Wei Shyy, the President of HKUST (Guangzhou), Professor Ni Mingxuan, and the Acting Director / Deputy Director of the Innovation and Technology Bureau, Mr. Andrew Young. The event attracted nearly 600 guests from the business sector and government institutions, including representatives from seven consulates.
Professor Li Zexiang, a professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Director of the Hong Kong Construction Research and Development Centre, delivered a keynote speech. He emphasized that the core of promoting new engineering education is for students to discover and define problems on their own. He expressed the hope that through new engineering education, more students with an innovative spirit can be nurtured.
During the product showcase session,Skyland Innovation's product, the color 3D scanner, attracted the attention of many guests and media outlets, who stopped to take a closer look.
In an interview with TVB, Wang Zijie, the project director of Skyland Innovation, stated that the color 3D scanner can generate real-time full-color point clouds. It can be applied in various scenarios such as surveying, design, construction management, inspection, and maintenance. Through their self-developed technology, they ensure a higher level of accuracy in the collected data. Currently, the product has been used in 40 construction projects, including the Hong Kong makeshift hospital and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
Furthermore, the HKCRC Skyland Innovation team, along with Visionary Tech, has received the "University Technology Startup Support Scheme" launched by the Innovation and Technology Bureau of Hong Kong. They were awarded during the award ceremony at the "Unicorn Day" event held by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
